Hemlandstoner (Homeland Tones) The model for this work was Märta Sofia Näktergal (born 1899), a singer and model from Gagnef in Dalarna, Sweden. She was part of Anders Zorn’s circle of acquaintances in the early 20th century. According to family recollections, Märta was known for singing songs by Erik Gustaf Geijer in Zorn’s home. She later became active in Stockholm and was associated with the city’s cultural life, including the historic restaurant Den Gyldene Freden. Her role as the model for Hemlandstoner connects her personal story with the artistic and cultural milieu surrounding Zorn in early 20th-century Sweden.
